Pairing Beer with Budapest’s Flavours

Budapest’s craft beer scene is a perfect complement to the city’s diverse culinary offerings. The rich and hearty flavours of Hungarian cuisine pair beautifully with the complex and nuanced flavours of craft beer.

A hoppy IPA, with its bold bitterness and citrusy aroma, pairs well with spicy Hungarian dishes, such as goulash or paprikash. The bitterness of the beer cuts through the richness of the food, while the hop flavours complement the spiciness.

A dark stout, with its roasted malt flavours and notes of coffee and chocolate, is a great match for hearty dishes, such as pörkölt (a meat stew) or töltött káposzta (stuffed cabbage). The roasted malt flavours of the beer complement the savoury richness of the dishes, creating a satisfying and comforting combination.

For lighter dishes, such as lángos (deep-fried flatbread) or kürtÅ‘skalács (chimney cake), a crisp lager or a refreshing wheat beer can be a perfect pairing. The clean and refreshing character of these beers won’t overpower the flavours of the food, allowing you to enjoy both the dish and the drink to the fullest.
