Pros: Pleasant weather, fewer crowds than summer, and the intoxicating scent of orange blossoms filling the air. It is also a time of incredible spectacle in Seville, with many festivals taking place.

Cons: Accommodation prices can be higher due to the popularity of this season, and you might encounter occasional rain showers.

Festivals:

Semana Santa (Holy Week): This deeply religious festival, usually held in late March or early April, is a spectacle of solemn processions, elaborate floats, and passionate displays of faith. While a moving experience, be aware that the city gets extremely crowded during this week. Feria de Abril (April Fair): Two weeks after Semana Santa, Seville throws a week-long party filled with flamenco, traditional costumes, dancing, and plenty of food and drink. The fair takes place in a dedicated area with casetas (tents) where locals gather to celebrate. It is an experience not to be missed. Summer: Sizzling Days and Lively Nights (June – August)

Summer in Seville is not for the faint of heart. The city transforms into a furnace, with scorching temperatures that can easily soar above 100°F (38°C). However, if you can handle the heat, you’ll be rewarded with long, sunny days and a unique atmosphere.

Weather: Extremely hot and dry, with average temperatures in the 90s Fahrenheit (32-37°C) and often exceeding 100°F (38°C).

Pros: Long daylight hours for exploring, fewer crowds than spring (many locals escape the heat), and lively evenings as the city comes alive after the sun sets.

Cons: The intense heat can be overwhelming and make daytime sightseeing challenging. Many smaller shops and restaurants close during the afternoon for siesta.

Festivals: While the major festivals take place in spring, summer evenings are filled with outdoor concerts, cinema screenings, and other cultural events. The heat of the day gives way to balmy evenings which bring locals out onto the streets.

Winter: A Festive Atmosphere and Off-Season Charm (December – February)

Winter in Seville is mild compared to other European cities, but it’s still the coldest and wettest time of year. However, the city retains its charm, and the festive season brings a special kind of magic.

Weather: Mild but cool, with average temperatures in the 50s Fahrenheit (10-15°C). Nights can be chilly, and rain is more frequent.

Pros: Lowest prices for accommodation and flights, fewest crowds, and a festive atmosphere during the Christmas and New Year period. You will be able to visit many of the main tourist attractions without having to queue for very long, if at all.

Cons: Shorter daylight hours, cooler temperatures, and a higher chance of rain. Some attractions may have reduced opening hours.

Festivals:

Christmas Markets: Plaza Nueva and other locations host charming Christmas markets selling handicrafts, decorations, and festive treats.

New Year’s Eve: Seville celebrates the New Year with fireworks, parties, and the tradition of eating 12 grapes at midnight for good luck.

Ideal for: Budget travellers, those who don’t mind cooler weather, and anyone who wants to experience Seville’s festive season.

• For the best weather and most vibrant atmosphere: Spring (March-May) is hard to beat.
• For budget travellers: Summer (June-August) and Winter (December-February) offer the lowest prices, but be prepared for extreme heat or cooler, wetter weather respectively.
• For a balance of pleasant weather and fewer crowds: Autumn (September-November) is an excellent choice.
• For a unique cultural experience: Plan your trip around Semana Santa or Feria de Abril in the spring.
